REQUIREMENTS FOR REGISTERING YOUTH ORGANIZATIONS AND YOUTH SERVING AGENCIES

The Act of Parliament which established the National Youth Commission of Sierra Leone mandates the Commission to register Youth Organizations and Youth Serving Agencies operating within the boundaries of the country.
In that respect, youth organizations and Youth Serving Agencies intending to register with the National Youth Commission must meet certain criteria as outlined in the National Youth Commission Act and these criteria could be found below:

1. Members of a registering Youth Organization Must be between the ages of 15-35 years
2. Youth groups Must have a written constitution
3. The Organization Must also have an Elective Executive at the time of registration
4. The Executive Must have at least 30% female youth representation
5. There should be a well defined contact address of the Organization
6. Youth Organizations opting to register with the National Youth Commission should secure a registration form from the Offices of the National Youth Commission at a minimal cost of Ten Thousand Leone (Le 10,000) and then pay the sum of Thirty Thousand Leones (Le 30,000) in the Commission’s account at the Sierra Leone Commercial Bank. Youth Serving Agencies would buy the form at the same price but pay the sum of One Hundred Thousand Leones (100,000) in the same account.

Upon payment and receipt of bank payment details, the filled form, a copy of the organization's constitution/bye-laws and the Minutes of last meeting held by the applying Organization, the Commission now prepares the certificate.
The application should be verified and interview of any member of the applying organization is done the Youth Development and Empowerment Officer of the National Youth Commission who would then recommend to the Commissioner by way of minute for his approval and signature. Any certificate that does not bear the signature and stamp of the commissioner is considered invalid.
However, the National Youth Commission reserves the sole right to reject an Organization’s application and in some cases terminate the registration of an organization if it (the Commission) finds sufficient evidence and reasons to do so.
The registration of an organization lasts for a period of one year after which the registration should be renewed. In other words, the registration should be renewed annually with a report on the activities of the Organization for the past year.
