Transforming Education for Sustainable Development
The Ministry of Youth Affairs and partners have completed four days long celebration of International Youth Day 2019 celebrated on 12th August every year, on the theme “Transforming Education for Sustainable Development.”
A dialogue session on Friday 9thAugust commenced the celebrations. The theme transforming education for sustainable development, how to end violence in Sierra Leone and Irregular migration were discussed.
Other activities included a float parade with key youth messages, recreation, and parliamentary debate by young people for the development of a position on the theme “Transforming education for sustainable development.”
The August 12th IYD celebration held at the Miatta Conference Hall climaxed the annual youth day with the Minister of Youth Affairs, Mohamed Orman Bangura speaking extensively on hallmarks by his ministry. He however emphasized “entrepreneurship, skills and agriculture” as a new trajectory for youth development.
On that note, the minister said the ministry has acquired “600 acres land in Koinadugu, Kenema, Kono and Tonkolili districts” for the establishment of a youth farms.
He presented a brand new tractor to the youth as his ministry gifts for the celebration and a way to encourage young people to see agriculture as a viable means to economic development for themselves and the country.
